Canberra is much smaller and slower paced than Melbourne and Sydney. Most of the marketing jobs tend to be in these two cities but I’m sure you will find something in Canberra – it will be much harder though V’s Sydney and Melbourne
We are also in recession with the number employed set to continue to rise over the next couple of years at least. This will have an impact on job opportunies and I guess people doing up there houses. The housing market has started to pick up though so that could be good for your wife.
Canberra itself has a bit of a reputation for being a bit boring. This is very harsh and the place itself is very pretty with lots of lovely green spaces. You can be in the mountains in a matter of a couple of hours. Sydney is a 3 hour drive away and Melbourne is further at about 7, but there are regular flights to most of Australia from Canberra.

Best of luck with your migration.
Kind Regards

I love Canberra.
If you have kids, theres great schools here.
As the answer above said, life is slower here than the hussle in Sydney and Melbourne.
You can drive to either of these cities in a day and still have time to do things.
Have a picnic at the Cotter, have a breakfast there, it’s the best place for a (mostly) quiet day. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cotter_River and scroll down to Recreation, theres a nice view of the Picnic area. Theres also a playground for the young ones!
You can walk up and down the river, swim (if your up for it) and theres lots of green grass to picnic on.
Pine Island is another great place to beat the heat. Swimming there is fantastic and I would recommend going there when it gets a wee bit hotter. Lunch there is great. Action Buses are .. Alright.. and you can get where you want when you want.. or about when you want. http://www.action.act.gov.au
If you want shopping, go to Canberra Centre, Civic. Thats the best place out. http://www.canberracentre.com.au
Check out Telstra Tower, go there for dinner. Small servings, great view. Go to McDonalds after to fill yourself up!
Hmm..
La Porchetta in Tuggeranong has friendly staff, have a genuine Italian Dinner there. http://www.laporchetta.com.au
Jobs.
Being 15, Jobs are a bit hard to find in retail stores. Just check careerone.com.au and you’ll find what your looking for.
Alot of people are sticking to jobs like glue now, so it might be a while before spaces open.
Your wife could start her own business, advertise in the Yellow Pages.
I’m sure that would wok.
Anyway, good luck, and I hope you enjoy Canberra!
